Black and Gold

Columbia River Basalt  from Sherman County with gold leaf on a base of countertop scrap marble.  This piece was an experiment in adding another color and luster to complement the deep glossy black of the polished and brushed basalt.  I learned that applying gold leaf to irregular surfaces is not recommended for beginners!  Although I like the color contrast in oblique views, overall the bright gold seems out of place with the wild stones I use.
